Philosophical notes
This page holds only two brief philosophical notes, both from relatively early in the writing of the novel.
Rand wrote what she referred to as “stylized” characters, meaning characters that acted in line with the philosophical premises that they held (good or bad). The first note here relates to this, with Rand reminding herself that the lives and actions of each character came logically from their ideas. For further reading on how Rand thought about characterization, see The Romantic Manifesto and The Art of Fiction.
