“Roark”
As mentioned in the previous item, Rand created “schedules of development” for several characters in the first part of the novel. This one covers Roark’s development. Although not dated, the events and characters match up with Rand’s early 1938 outlines for this part of the story, so these notes likely date to the first couple of years of her work on the novel.
Rand worked at different levels of abstraction in her notes and outlines. These pages cover only the most essential events in each chapter that involve Roark, and the essential elements of his interactions with the other characters. This helped her assess both the character development and progression of events to ensure that she was including only the necessary elements and not anything extraneous.
